The Technology
Platform
The MobileSitter was developed using Java ME. This allows it to be implemented in
and used on different devices, independent of the operating system. The CLDC 1.1 and
MIDP 2.0 standards were used to realize the MobileSitter for mobile phones and JSR 75 is
the standard used for file access. Mobile phones using the MobileSitter should support
these standards.
Platform requirements
- Java, CLDC 1.1, MIDP 2.0 or higher, JSR 75
- Display at least 160 pixels wide
Encryption
A mechanism specifically developed for the MobileSitter is used to encrypt the
secret codes (passwords, PINs and TANs). This mechanism is based on worldwide accepted
standards such as AES 128, PKCS#5 and ISO/IEC 9797-1. Based on these standards the
Fraunhofer Institute for Secure Information Technology (SIT) developed the MobileSitter
mechanism that does not supply any information about whether a randomly chosen
decryption code is the right one. Without knowing the correct key, this process will not
allow any conclusions on the securely stored secret codes.
